Heart Attack And Hypertension

Conditions, Nutrition and Treatment

"Heart attacks and strokes are not diseases; they are caused by vitamin deficiencies."

Mathias Rath MD

Heart conditions and hypertension do not arrive overnight like a visit from the bad fairy, they are preceded by long periods of poor nutrition, bad lifestyle decisions and stress.A subsequent visit to the Doctor may lead to being told to take some medicine which may very well lead to them feeling even iller than they did before, they may also be warned not to take vitamin C or vitamin E, the very things that might have helped undo some of the damage and protect against stroke and heart attack. They do this because, since both vitamin C and E have a blood thinning effect they might have to calculate the dose more carefully or even, God forbid, lower the dose, or admit the C and E did the job better with less side effects.

This can leave the person in a confused state, unsure whether to take his Doctors advice and make himself feel even iller or take a nutritional approach, when his doctor has implied it will make him worse. So here are some facts, information and pros and cons to help you decide what is best for you. This information is supplied for educational purposes only, and in all cases of illness you should consult your Doctor, hopefully before he reaches the age of 58, which is the average life expectancy of your doctor. And what is he most likely to die of at age 58 ? You've guessed it: stroke or heart attack !

The following information is to help you make empowered choices and take control of your own health and healing processes: If you are a patient do not change or discontinue any prescription medicine without consulting with your Doctor, nutritional therapy is an adjunct to conventional therapy, and will assist your body to heal itself. It is not a substitute for your Doctor's advice.

Vitamins, Minerals and Herbs which could help:

Vitamin C

An increase in the amount of vitamin C in the diet decreases cholesterol, it decreases LDL cholesterol and Triglicerides, and increases the healthy HDL cholesterol, which is carried to the gall bladder to be converted into bile acids. Please note reducing the level of cholesterol in the diet does NOT reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood. Human beings manufacture cholesterol in the liver from acetate and other precursors; this has been known since the 1970s and the Framingham study. Following on to that John Yudkin demonstrated that it was the deadly poison sugar that was responsible for the outbreak of Heart Disease in the industrialised countries of the western world. Despite Linus Pauling's pioneering work with vitamin C, proving that it has a regulatory effect on cholesterol levels, doctors have chosen to ignore this cheap available natural health giving substance, and continued instead to advocate the disproven, out of date fat reduction regime. So remember Yudkin's proven correlation between Sugar and heart disease and reduce Sugar and increase vitamin C.

Vitamin E

The Shute Doctors Dr R. James Shute and his two sons Evan V Shute and Wilfred E Shute pioneered the use of vitamin E in the treatment of Heart disease and Cardiovascular disease from 1933 onwards. They successfully treated thousands of patients between them. More than half a century later a Cambridge research team has confirmed their conclusions With evidence that if you take 400 ius of vitamin E a day you have seventy five percent less chance of having a heart attack.

Folic Acid

Has an important role to play in heart health as it reduces homocysteine an amino acid that can build up in the arteries and clog them. It also is involved in the production of red blood cells and oxygen supply.

Amino Acids:

Linus Pauling the Nobel Prize winning pioneer of Vitamin therapy used Lysine in conjunction with vitamin C to de-coke the arteries, the Lysine helps remove the plaque from the arterial walls and the vitamin C repairs the arteries.

L. Arginine (an amino acid)

Dr Rath who worked with Linus Pauling and wrote the book "Why Animals Don't Get Heart Attacks But People Do." Says arginine creates "relaxing Factor" nitric oxide, which increases the elasticity of artery walls and thereby helps to normalise high blood pressure by a factor of more than 10%.

Proline

is another amino acid, which Dr Mathias Rath describes as one of nature's Teflon agents, which prevent cholesterol and fatty particles adhering to the artery walls.

Minerals

Magnesium

in combination with vitamin C, relaxes the vessel walls and so lowers blood pressure.

Selenium

is a natural antioxidant, which helps prevent the cardio-vascular system from "rusting"

Exercise:

Regular exercise helps to tone the cardiovascular system and keep it healthy.

Stress, the heart and Melatonin

Chronic stress can really damage the heart, when under stress people produce corticosteroids, hormones that literally damage the heart muscle and the arteries. The damaged arteries then clog up with plaques, which are a sort of emergency repair mechanism, if this causes the blood supply to your brain to be impaired you get a stroke if the circulation to your heart is restricted you get a heart attack. Melatonin, a hormone produced by the pineal gland, can curb the effect of the corticosteroids and prevent them from rising too high. As we get older pineal function drops and we become more vulnerable to stress induced damage. Melatonin is not obtainable in Britain, but is available from The United States.

Causes of high blood pressure to look out for

Tumour on the adrenal gland, a narrowing or kink in a blood vessel leading to kidney. Kidney infections, certain drugs such as MAOs and cold cures and contraceptive pills can cause high blood pressure.

Side effects of medical treatment

The side effects of your medication are always listed on a leaflet with your medicine, you should read this carefully, so that you don't confuse symptoms of your illness with side effects of your drug, tell your Doctor if you experience side effects, he could switch you to another drug which might suit you better. If your medicine is making you feel ill, do not just discontinue it without consulting your Doctor, as discontinuing some of them suddenly can lead to a rapid rise in blood pressure.

Side Effects of Vitamin Therapy

Increased health and well-being, and improved sexual function.

Lifestyle changes

Look carefully at your life, work out what you have to change to make your life less stressful and more fun, and what you have to do to make your future more inviting. So that the inner you who has started to pull the plug on things, will decide it's worth staying on for the ride after all. Smoking: To quote Dr Tom Smith in his book "living with High Blood Pressure" "If you have high blood pressure, you are crazy if you smoke. It is as simple as that." If you smoke you poison yourself three ways at the same time, with tars, nicotine and carbon monoxide. Tars contain many poisons including some which are carcinogenic and some which affect circulation. Nicotine directly contributes to blood pressure rising by constricting blood vessels. The sudden cramping narrowing could bring on a heart attack. Carbon monoxide: Cuts off about one sixth of the blood supply's Oxygen and is linked to early death from heart attack and stroke.
